By vine | July 3rd, 2010There are so many things to learn in online marketing such as generating traffic, advertising, site promotion, and many others. Yet – if your site, landing page, or sales letter is not converting, then no amount of traffic will ease your pain. One of the secrets to copy that converts is knowing your market, knowing what they want, and then simply offering it to them. Copywriting and general writing are completely different forms of writing, and that’s not quite understood by a lot of people. Copywriting is many things including persuasive writing as well as appealing to human nature. So let’s continue on and cover just several important tips about copywriting that we think you’ll like.
The use of a story, that’s well told, is one of the oldest marketing strategies of all time. People love reading stories where someone has comes out victorious after facing hardship. You should learn the different kinds of stories because the structure for them is universal and always accepted by readers. The story about someone who is struggling against great odds tends to evoke feelings of empathy with people. The story is used to lead the reader down a path, and the emotions are used to eventually compel the reader to have desire for a product, or service. Most of the people who sell their own products/services or have a company always have a story about how they achieved what they did. If you ever create your own product based on solving a problem, then that will be perfect for using it in your own copy.
You need to avoid confusing your potential clients when you are creating your sales copy. You want your copy to speak to a single person. You use the word “You” and not “they”.
You need to focus on the person who is reading your copy in that particular second. You will therefore be able to connect and create a relationship with your reader. He/she will feel the strong connection with you and start imagining how the product will solve their problem. It is nothing more than fundamental human psychology. Prospects will buy from you only once they feel a connection with you. This is a feeling you want to evoke in your reader because it is what will keep them stimulated and increases the chances of them clicking your buy button.
You should avoid using words that invoke negative emotions and instead use power words such as secret, amazing, new, breakthrough, amazing, you happiness, free etc. Your goal is to promote the benefits of your product and not its features. By using such powerful words in your sales pages your prospective clients will feel special and happy. You shouldn’t fear using these terms to generate a little hype, but don’t overdo it. You can find a great amount of information on this area, so it’s worth your time to do it. It’s a process, and you can work on them together as you write copy. If you have little experience, then learn to recognize the benefits of a product or service, and then tell your readers about it the best you can. You can learn as much or as little as you want, it’s really up to you.
